Each time a microorganism becomes resistant to an antibiotic, we lose another weapon in the war against infection. New resistance mechanisms are emerging—and spreading globally—every day. The result? In the very near future, we may be left without any drugs at all to fight serious, resistant infections.1

Key actions to combat the spread of resistance include:2

Limiting the Spread

Tracking Resistance

Improving Stewardship

Developing New Solutions

Rapid Molecular Diagnostics: Supporting CDC’s Four Core Actions to Fight Antimicrobial Resistance

CDC has declared the complex problem of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) a serious threat today, which will result in potential catastrophic consequences with continued inaction. In like respect, the World Health Organization (WHO) has stated that, “A post-antibiotic era—in which common infections and minor injuries can kill—far from being an apocalyptic fantasy, is instead a very real possibility for the 21st century,” threatening the achievements of modern medicine.

Aggressive action is needed now to prevent both the spread of existing resistance and development of new resistance mechanisms. To combat AMR, the CDC has identified 4 core actions, all of which can be addressed through rapid molecular diagnostics.
